CVS Health Analytics Summit: Shaping the Future of CVS Analytics
Hundreds of CVS Health employees come together for the Analytics Summit every year. The CVS Analytics Summit is an enterprise-wide event that brings together analytic teams from all parts of CVS to share best practices on the use of analytics across the company and provide broad opportunities for networking and collaboration that have sparked new applications and ideas.
It has grown from a small networking event in Rhode Island to a two-day forum where analysts are given a platform to present their innovative ideas to the company’s leaders. Events range from hands-on learning sessions, new analytic technology demonstrations, and break-out sessions where analysts from different disciplines came together to work through knotty real world problems.
CVS also invites multiple business leaders to attend throughout the session, both to provide perspectives on how advanced analytics are driving value for their functions, and to challenge participants of what else is on the horizon that the analytics community can help solve.

A way for analysts in any location to connect, collaborate, and further develop their skills. Colleagues are provided with a list of available sessions throughout the day, including user groups and training sessions, as well as an evening reception that high-lighted examples of how analytics are driving value across CVS Health.
Each year teams of analysts create posters to showcase their work. Attendees vote for three of their favorite presentations in three categories: Best Self-Service Analytics Tool, Best Visualization and Most Innovative. These presentations range from new operations models, strategies and solutions to existing or potential issues that could leverage CVS Health to be the top provider in world-class health care.
Leaders from various analytic teams can join break-out sessions to come up with ways to create more value from analytics and, as a result, place CVS Health at the forefront of health care by combatting current issues within the health care industry.
Highlights from 2016 Summit
This year the theme was “Connect. Collaborate. Value”, which represented the focus of bringing together diverse set of expertise to help drive innovation and speed to market in how analytics can help transform CVS Health. The 2016 summit included sessions from many different business units, and highlights included interactive sessions to build “Enterprise Data Maps”, a hands on workshop on best practices in data visualization, and a discovery session on translating analytics into new customer value streams.

Participation in the summit is continually growing. This gathering brings teams together that normally work across the country from each other. It creates a space for colleagues to collaborate on new ideas. The showcased innovations perpetuate the valuable role that analytics plays in the overall success of CVS Health. This fall CVS is looking to hold the first cross-company “datathon” which will bring together small analytic teams in a fun competitive –style format of insights that can be gleaned from cross-functional datasets.
