What is a Virtual Job Tryout (VJT)?

CVS Health screens over a million job applicants a year. To be fair and objective in making hiring decisions, we use virtual job tryouts to screen applicants. VJTs provide realistic job previews so you can see what the job is like and if you think it is a good fit for you. It also includes several exercises where you “try out” the job, and CVS Health can learn about your job related skills and experience.

Once you complete your online profile, you will begin the application process. Not every job has a VJT associated with it. However, if the role to which you are applying has one, you will be presented with it after you complete the online job questionnaire. You must complete the VJT for your application to be completed.

If you do need to take a VJT, set yourself up for success! So that you can perform your best, find a quiet and distraction-free location to take the VJT. Set aside plenty of time to finish and try not to spend too much time on any one item. For VJTs that require audio, make sure you have access to headphones and/or speakers. If you have technical issues, stop and reach out to the Modern Hire team at cvs_support@cvshealth.com before you finish.

In the section below, we have provided information about some of the more common exercises. Reviewing the exercise descriptions here may help you be more comfortable with your experience. Please note – every VJT is different, so the actual exercises will vary. This list is not comprehensive.

VJTs are not timed. If you need to stop and resume, your progress will be saved as you go. Most VJTs are mobile-optimized and offered in English and Spanish. If you think you may need an accommodation, email cvs_support@modernhire.com to submit a request before you begin the VJT.

Realistic Job Preview

In this section, a CVS Health Colleague in this role describes what the work is like, what tasks are performed, and the challenges and rewards (the things they like and don’t like).

This section also describes the work environment, such as the amount of customer interaction, the pace of the work, and the types of rules and procedures you must follow. This information should help you decide if you think the job is right for you. You will not have to answer questions in this section.

Situational Judgement Exercise

This exercise presents problem situations that a CVS Health Colleague could experience on the job.

You will be presented with four possible responses to a situation. You will make two selections. First, you’ll indicate which of the four responses you would MOST likely choose. Second, you’ll indicate which response you would LEAST likely choose.

Data Accuracy Check

Data Accuracy will not be on every VJT, but it is a good example of what a skills exercise may look like. In this instance, you will be presented with different tasks related to entering and checking data, such as taking inventory or comparing prescriptions to medicine bottles. You will enter data correctly or verify that data presented is correct.

Key Drivers – What Motivates You?

This section asks about the type of work environment that motivates you. You will be presented with two statements and asked to indicate which statement reflects what you would like more in a job. Note, while you might see the same statement more than once, you will not see the same pair of statements more than once.

Tell Us About You!

This section is a series of questions about your work history. If you do not have previous work experience, tell us about school, sports, or other memberships you are in as you answer each question.

Work Style

This section asks about your work style. Just like the “Key Drivers” section, you will read two statements and choose which one sounds the most like you. Note, while you might see the same statement more than once, you will not see the same pair of statements more than once.

Ready to apply?

Start by completing your online job application. You can easily search for a job in the red search bar at the top of the page, and filter by job title and/or location. When you find a job that is a good match for you, click the “Apply Now” button. You will be prompted to create an online profile. This starts the application process. Once you complete your application, you will be automatically directed to the Virtual Job Tryout. A hiring manager will review your application, and will contact you if you are selected to move forward.
