Building purpose-driven teams

At CVS Health, we are committed to breaking down employment barriers and helping individuals with disabilities find meaningful work. By building teams of colleagues with disabilities, we can more effectively focus on our customers and achieve our purpose of bringing our hearts to every moment of your health.

CVS Health colleagues share their stories of living and working with a disability.

Blind colleague leads Aetna members with heart

When Chad lost his sight because of a rare genetic disease, he was determined not to let adversity and barriers hold him back. Today, as a member of the Aetna® Behavioral Health Clinical team, he’s found his place working with members who are striving to live healthy, happy lives.

“He gives me encouragement, he’s caring and compassionate,” says Heather Orlando who has overcome huge obstacles with Chad’s help. For National Disability Pride Month, we share Chad’s remarkable story of perseverance and his commitment to be a “merchant of hope” for Aetna members.

Store manager sees the possibilities in people

Celia is smart and hardworking, but her speech impediment and shyness held her back from meaningful employment until she met store manager Axel Garay. “He saw something in me that none of those other employers had seen and I’m extremely grateful,” says Celia, an Operations Manager at the CVS Pharmacy in Rockville, Maryland, where Axel has cultivated a supportive environment.

Jon helps people gain life changing career skills

Through our Workforce Innovation and Talent Centers, Jon Dasilva has helped countless people learn job skills to gain meaningful employment. Incredibly, he created a mock CVS Pharmacy and Store at his former high school to teach/train students. “CVS has opened so many doors for me,” says McKenzie, a top student who, at the time, was struggling with challenges like homelessness.
